“Renaissance” was created in the summer of 2022, marking the first season of relative freedom after the official end of lockdown in Europe. For many, it was a time of self-reflection, personal growth, and reinvention. This project symbolizes the return of a man, his ascent to the top (of the pirogue) representing achievement, but also his need to reflect on the journey that led him there in order to truly evolve.
Visually, I used a mix of black-and-white and comic-style effects to signify shifts in time and memory, creating a layered narrative of introspection and transformation. The uptempo beat builds momentum, enhancing the sense of climax in the final scenes, which are deliberately more drawn out to emphasize the arrival at a new state of being.
We shot the video in Côte d’Ivoire, embracing both the beauty and the logistical challenges of the location. Time constraints and limited resources meant we couldn’t explore all the creative directions I had envisioned. However, thanks to the professionalism and skill of my friends, both experienced photographers handling the drone and camera, we were able to capture high-quality visuals that brought the story to life.
